Dharchula is a town located in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, India, nestled at an elevation of 940 meters above sea level. Surrounded by towering peaks on all sides, Dharchula is beautifully bisected by the Kali River, which forms a natural border between India and Nepal. The town is unique in its geography, with twin settlements on either side of the river—one in India and the other in Nepal—offering a blend of cultures and scenic landscapes.
Upon arrival at Dharchula, enjoy the scenic beauty of this unique town situated at 940 meters above sea level. The town is divided by the Kali River, with one side belonging to India and the other to Nepal.
After breakfast, begin your journey to Nabi Village, often compared to the mystical "Pandora" from the movie Avatar. The route offers breathtaking views of cliff-hanging mountains, flowing rivers, and snow-covered Himalayan peaks, giving you a feeling of entering Shiva’s domain. En-route, visit the villages of Malpa, Budhi, Chialekh, Garbyang, Gunji, and Napalchu, each with its unique charm. Nabi Village, located at 3048 meters, serves as the base camp for Adi Kailash. The experience will immerse you in the rich Himalayan culture.
After an early morning drive of 2 hours, arrive at Om Parvat, where nature has sculpted snow in the form of the sacred “OM” symbol. After taking in the majestic view and feeling the vibrations of the divine, spend some time meditating in this spiritual place. Later, visit Kalapani (subject to permission), home to the Mahakali Temple, a site rich with feminine energy, and explore the source of the Kali River and Vyas Gufa. Return to Nabi Village for a cultural walk to Manakamana Temple, followed by a cultural program (depending on availability of local artists). Overnight stay at Nabi Village.
Today, journey to the oldest abode of Lord Shiva, Adi Kailash. The road is challenging, demanding physical and spiritual endurance as you ascend through the Vyas Valley, gaining altitude with every step. Along the way, don't miss the Pandav Fort at Kuti Village. Upon arrival at Jyolingkong, visit Parvati Sarovar, a 2 km trek (or pony ride) depending on fitness levels. Bow before the towering Adi Kailash Mountain at 6310 meters and absorb the divine energy. For those who are physically able, continue to Gauri Kund near the mountain base at 5000 meters, though altitude sickness may be a concern. The evening will be spent with the RUNG community, understanding Himalayan village life. Overnight stay at Nabi Village.
After breakfast, head back to Dharchula. The evening is free for visiting Nepal and local shopping. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at a hotel in Dharchula.
